Dr. Christy Fortney is a force to be reckoned with on the court, on stage and in the office. Her impressive career journey began in Loyola Marymount University in 1994, where she was a point guard on the Division 1 Women’s basketball team and a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.  After college, Dr. Fortney pursued her passion for dentistry and graduated from Northwestern University Dental School in 1998. She then completed a GPR residency at Ravenswood Hospital in 1999 and a fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in 2001.

Now, here’s where it gets even more interesting – Dr. Fortney’s passion for dentistry started at a young age, when she began working for her dad’s oral surgery practice at just 12 years old! She did everything from sterilizing equipment to assisting with procedures, and it taught her so much about what it takes to run a business and how to provide top-notch patient care. How cool is that?

After finishing her residency and fellowship, Dr. Fortney and her husband moved back to California and bought a dental practice together. She faced some tough times, including her partner’s injury, but she never gave up. Today, Dr. Fortney runs two orthodontic locations in San Diego and also owns a pediatric dental office called Escondido Children’s Dental.

Dr. Fortney is also a Diamond Provider for Invisalign and has spoken at events for 3m Unitek, Opal Orthodontics, Dental monitoring, and Henry Schein Orthodontics. But what really sets her apart is her dedication to giving back to the dental community. She’s been a member of the Schulman group for 17 years and a board member for six years. Plus, she’s helped countless other orthodontists improve their practices through mentorship and speaking engagements.

When she’s not busy being an amazing orthodontist, Dr. Fortney loves being a mom to her two teenage sons who play baseball and wrestle. She’s a big fan of the Padres, and she also enjoys practicing yoga.
